Job Description

Longview Regional Medical Center is seeking a Board-Certified Internal Medicine Program Director to lead in the development of a new Internal Medicine Residency Program.  This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced leader to build a program from the ground up in Longview, Texas.

Position Highlights:

  • Hospital employed opportunity.
  • 0.5 (20 hours per week) of administrative/educational, non-clinical time and 0.5 (20 hours per week) of clinical service (combination of direct patient care and resident supervision, in outpatient internal medicine.)
  • Develop the initial GME teaching program at our hospital, including establishing our program’s vision and mission, establishing the curriculum, talking part submitting our initial program application for accreditation in conjunction with our sponsoring institution.
  • Recruit, appoint, evaluate, and retain program leadership (Associate Program Director, Core Faculty, Subspecialty Education Coordinators, and Program Coordinator) in accordance with ACGME requirements.
  • Assist with and attend didactics/education activities, which may include making and presenting lectures, moderating a journal club, moderating an M&M conference, or participating in orientation week, simulation day, and/or research days.
  • Lead the process to interview residency program candidates on select interview days.
  • Develop and ensure residents know their educational goals and schedules for the assigned rotation(s).
  • Ensure residents receive the required hands-on clinical training per the ACGME internal medicine program requirements and that faculty take the time to answer questions, prompt learning, and offer salient teaching points.
  • Ensure the residents are provided informal and formal feedback throughout each supervisory period so they are learning and growing. At the end of the rotation, ensure the resident is provided formal feedback through an online form and review the formal feedback with them as appropriate.  Ensure that if the resident is being supervised by a group or team, feedback about the resident's performance is aggregated and shared by the faculty member responsible for completing the evaluation on behalf of the group.

Qualifications:

  • Physician must be board-certified in the United States in the field of Internal Medicine.
  • Must have a genuine desire to teach and mentor residents
  • Must have a minimum of 3+ years’ documented administrative and/or academic leadership experience to ensure effective implementation of the ACGME requirements.

The Hospital
Longview Regional Hospital is a fully accredited 133-bed acute care community hospital with physicians on staff in more than 30 fields of specialty.
